I took it several years ago so I don't know how much it has changed.
It was 200 questions - 3 hours.
Multiple choice.
It is not hard if you have been in the AML world for a while.
You need to know about FATF and Wolfsberg.
There are a lot of ML scenarios.
Their study book is pretty comprehensive and should cover all areas.
Good luck!

I took it in 2006. The test went through a revision in 2007, so maybe someone who took it recently can chime in on the test. I believe it is computerized now.

I agree that the study book will cover all the areas. I found the course to be helpful as well, they give pointers on the content of the questions and provide additional sample questions that are not in the book.

The study guide is all you need. It has practice questions after each chapter. Good luck.

I took the test within the past week and passed. At present there are 120 questions all multiple choice. I agree that the study guide and experience are the tools that will aid you. Best of luck to you.

My suggestion would be to read/study book+supplement trough twice, read as much case study as you can. And as mentioned above sample questions are located in the study book.

FinCEN's SAR Review is a good source of information..

If you prefer an html format you can Google 'sar review 9' and there is an html version.

I got my designation in December 2007. I read through the materials (both books) at least twice and read some supplemental information a colleague had. Defiantely focus on the international and keep in mind that the US does not fully implement some of the recomendations. They are asking for the "book answers" not necessarily how we may do it in the US on some things.

The test has a lot of ML scenarios like someone else already mentioned. All of the questions are longer word problem multiple choice and very detailed. Read the questions carefully as not all of the data in the scenario is relevant to the actual question asked.

But I found it a bit easier then I was expecting. But I have been in banking or the financial world for quite some time.

Best of luck. The sample questions are good and show you the kinds of questions you are likely to see.

I took the test in March 07, The sample questions in the study guide are good examples of what to expect on the test. There used to be sample questions on the website too.
Good Luck

For those of you who recently passed, how long did it take you to prepare for the exam? My boss wants me to become certified this year...just wondering how I should plan it out time-wise.

I took the exam 3 years ago. I did not go to the prep seminar since a friend gave me the study guide. I reviewed it at least 3-4 times over a period of 5-6 weeks leading up to the exam.

I studied for about two weeks. Once you memorize the study manual info (FATF recommendations, FIUs, etc.), the rest really comes down to your experience handling investigations. And always remember, if "contact counsel" is one of the choices, that is likely the right answer. They are really big on bank counsel.
