Why is this an issue? The state isn't forcing anyone to have this plate, it is offering it as an alternative to the MANY residents who would want it. They can earn money by doing so, unless of course morons waste that money on court costs fighting it.

So? If there is a market to sell such plates, and they aren't offensive, then sell them.

The government should not (and I believe under the First Amendment cannot) be in the business of selling items that promote a particular religion or atheism or agnosticism. That is especially true if the government does not offer an alternative plate for people of other religious persuasions. (I haven't read the article, maybe they do offer plates for Wiccans, Druids, Satan-worshippers, atheists, . . . but I doubt it.)

This will be shot down in 35 seconds as soon as someone files the inevitable lawsuit.

The FEDERAL government should not, under the First Amendment, be interfering with states rights to do such things.

This should prove interesting.

Can Maryland declare Roman Catholicism to be Maryland's state religion, since, as you stated, the FEDERAL government should not interfere with states rights to do such things?

When did the Knights of Columbus become a religion?

What did the Constitution guarantee with regard to state government? (Not the Supreme Court, the Constitution.)

I'm waiting for NeObama to explain the religious symbols used in the emblems for the Knights of Columbus and Knights of Peter Claver.

Indiana has a plate that boldly states 'In God We Trust'. My sister now has that plate.

I don't pretend to be much of an expert on KoC but when I visited their site it was all religeous news. I am not sure what NeoBama was referencing, but it was probably not the symbol, but instead the organization. And thus, a symbol that represents the organization also represents their beliefs. Just because there is no cross would not mean its not religeous.

Here is their discription on their site: The Knights was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.

The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world's foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities.

The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 13,000 councils and 1.7 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan.

First, the KoC is a Roman Catholic organization, however, allowing Vietnam Vets, The Masons, etc. to have organizational plates and denying a club affiliated with a religion would be discriminatory.

As for what's offensive? Regarding just the Christian versions, something that said "Repent now", or "God loves the child you aborted" would be offensive. Saying "I Believe" is not.

Membership in the K of C is limited to "practical Catholic" men aged 18 or older. IDK, sounds kind of religious in nature.
