and every time we see some random(sometimes too random) movie quote we think wow, what a savant that person must be, to be so well cultured in the media of theater... I wonder if that was that doctoral project, watching carpy movies?

I would proudly serve (and be scared to death, but do it anyway). My pride in, and appreciation for, this country would not allow me to do anything other than serve if called and do my very best. Of course, this is strictly a hypothetical for me, and I know how blessed I am that I won't ever be called upon for this type of service. Also... it's always worthy of another opportunity to point out that those who support and love our troops (kids, spouses, significant others, siblings, parents) also serve and sacrifice right along with their deployed soldier/airman/Marine/sailor.

Noah, that was beautiful and are my sentiments exactly, I served almost 9 years and if they called me tomorrow I would be gone.I know my family would take good care of my kids, while I was taking good care of this country

I'm too old to be drafted - i think. However the military needs compliance officers too! Also, my college training was in Government Contracts - think they could use me?

I am sure they could. You could work for the IG or Inspector General. They have been calling back people that got out on medical discharges that are older to do support jobs. I just wish they would call on me!!

My father spent 21 years in the Air Force, serving through both Korea and Vietnam. The freedoms we enjoy today were provided by the service and sacrifice of hundreds of thousands. How could I ever think of dishonoring that sacrifice by declining to serve myself? I also proudly served 2 years of active duty and five additional years of National Guard duty myself, although not in a time of active combat.

Some people are just believers in the cause and it is amazing the courage they have to watch their sons and daughters go off to war, even after already losing one to the war.

Twenty eight years in the Navy and Naval Reserve. Tried for the last ten years (since retirement) to get back in, but faced with maximum time in service, was not possible. Daughter served six years (Naval Officer), son-in-law was in for seven (Naval Officer). Son is presently serving (Marine Officer).

Many of my family proudly served, and it's be an honor, but the odds are I'd be relegated to serving in a capacity that would not jeopardize anyone else, since my hearing would be a liability, as it was in FDNY.
