I have posted this in a few spots here at BOL so that everyone who knew Don here would see it. He passed away May 1st after fighting cancer for the past year.

He was a very interesting guy, with many interests including his Hawaiian slack key guitar music!

Don was a good guy. Helped me out a great deal when I was getting my feet wet in HMDA and CRA.

Oh, Kath, I am so sorry to hear that.

I hope he didn't suffer.

I had spoken with him not too long ago and he sounded good. He said mostly he was getting more and more tired and slowing down. He didn't complain much, but he was trying to keep upbeat for his wife.

I really did not know Don except that I read a few of his posts, and he seemed to be a really standup guy. If memory serves me correctly, he also proudly wore the uniform of the U.S. Marine Corp?

He was very knowlegable, and seemed to have an amazing understanding of compliance. I remember once that he said he served as a marine.

May he rest in peace. His posts were always helpful and informative, and he seemed like a really interesting, knowledgeable person.

After I bought Don's business, he turned his office space into a music studio and radio station! I was treated to a few performances there and met some of his Hawaiian music buddies.

Rest in peace, Don.

My Grandpa died the day before he did, it appears.
I'm now imagining Grandpa dancing in a beach bar to a live performance by Don with a rum runner in hand...

I think this thread says a lot about the cooler. Offense intended. Don was an amazing person who did not hesistate to help those who had questions or provide insight on issues that he was involved at the ground level with.

Yet you have a brag thread that is over 100 pages long. Don was a great banker imo.

While my condolences go out to his family and friends, I have never personally had any sort of relationship with Don. I've never conversed with him, online or in any sense.

I don't think it says anything about the Cooler, as I bet many posters are in the same boat.

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
There are also about 3 threads devoted to Don at this time on BOL. There are 819 posts about don in the Private Cooler. So I believe you are taking offense and giving it for no reason.

That is right, there were 3 threads posted informing us all about Don's passing, including in the CRA forum where I posted my thoughts.

It doesn't really matter which thread people post in, just send your thoughts to his family and friends, and appreciate all of his input over the years on BOL.

I gave the offense for a reason, in fact I listed the reason. That cooler posters are more concerned over how much they make, insulting other posters, who sent naked pictures to who etc., then honoring a great person.

It is nice to know there are three private threads. I honestly don't think many of those I am calling out are taking part in them. IMO this is indicative of the value of the cooler to BOL.

Although a thread posted in tribute to Don is probably not the best venue to voice my opinion.

Harry,

Don's passing is truly a tragedy. However, I don't view the limited posts in the Cooler as an indication of self-righteousness. Is the Cooler an appropriate place to establish a memorial? Or is it rather a good place to alert the Coolies of such an event and allow us to venture into other forums to pay our respects.

Please don't view this as an attack on you, but an explanation as to why a Brag thread can stretch over 100 pages and this one hasn't. We all grieve in our own ways. Let us not sully the memory of a fellow BOLer.

(* If you do find this personally offensive, let me know and I'll remove it.)

My reason for adding a notice here about Don was that I know some folks who did have dealings with Don hang out here and it was an added place to let them know in case they didn't venture into the other threads before the notes there were lost in piles of other threads. No responses are necessary.

I ditto this. When I was handed CRA, Don was amazing help. I am real sorry to hear he lost his battle.

I am deeply saddened. He and I discussed music by PM and then emails. He sent me CDs by some slack key guitarists that he recorded. I reciprocated by introducing him to guitarist Django Rheinhart and others. I'm going to select the Hawaiian genre on my Zune right now and crank up the tunes. Aloha Don!
