I read the article that you gave us a link to Bimmer and I see where the news article says that a senior U.S. military official told CNN he has not been captured, but also I see where everything they have as direct quotes only say something to the effect of, "no information to confirm the report and at this point are skeptical of the reported capture". I can see where they could twist that to say no he wasn't captured, but U.S. officals really are not saying that. They are saying they are skeptical and do not have information to confirm the report. So its twisting the words, but that is what I have come to expect from the media (just my personal opinion there).
Now in reading the article, and all the times he has supposedly been caught or killed before, do I think he really was caught this time, no. But until they say he is or he isnt, the news shouldn't say the U.S. says he isnt captured.
Now they might have just left the direct quote out of the U.S. official who said that he wasnt captured, but why leave the most important quote out and keep the others in.

From the AP article Iraqi authorities had announced Thursday that police commandos captured Abu Ayyub al-Masri in a raid in the northern city of Mosul.
"Neither coalition forces nor Iraqi security forces detained or killed Abu Ayyub al-Masri. This guy had a similar name," said Maj. Peggy Kageleiry, a U.S. military spokeswoman in northern Iraq. She said no additional details were being immediately provided.
Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman Mohammed al-Askari said the confusion arose because the commander of Iraqi forces in northern Ninevah province was convinced that he had arrested al-Masri — also known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir.
"We called the commander of Ninevah operations 10 times and every time he insisted it was Abu Hamza al-Muhajir because when they caught him, they asked him whether his name was Abu Hamza al-Muhajir and he said yes," al-Askari told The Associated Press by phone.
He added that the commander repeatedly "insisted that it was him, how can we deny him then."

Keep us "safe" but lose the principles that make people proud to be Americans. Makes sense. someone here one told me I was militaristic and unfeeling, maybe the shoe fits I stand by my comments.

then how do you think we should weed these people out How about using the intelligence services as we have and enlisting the local populace to our cause (hears and minds) as Petreaus has shown is possible. These terrorists have done goood work for us in turning the local populations against them. The best counterp-insurgency strategy is preventing the insurgency from nestling in with the local populace. The measures you advocate only serve to drive the local populace towards the insurgents, thus increasing the danger to our troops and causing political backlash. These were the failed Vietnam strategies. Petreus has shown what works and unfortunately, your tough talk, if implemented, would only cause more harm than help.
