So here's an airline that wants to charge you for the FIRST checked bag. Oh well, at least they're honest about how they're going to do you over - instead of just hiding it in a fare increase. American adds a new charge Fortunately I've already quit flying them - delayed and canceled flights - lost luggage, etc - finally got fed up with being a sheep and just accepting their c***!

I just flew delta and had a rather pleasant experience. Nothing amiss.

Normally a Northwest guy, but last two flights were with Delta, and also quite pleasant actually.
Still feel my Midwest Airlines are the best though!

I abhor American Airlines. They lost my luggage last year and only partially reimbursed me. i simply refuse to use them anymore, business or pleasure.

Their handling of the MD80 groundings in April was truly abyssmal, and they are not stepping up to the plate to reimburse people for what it actually cost to make alternate arrangements (if they could). You get paid for your hotel if you couldn't make alternate arrangements, but if you shelled out the outrageous last-minute money to fly on another airline, they only reimburse you for the unused portion of your ticket with them (a fraction of what you're actually out).

That's why I fly Southwest whenever possible. They give credit when I need to cancel a flight that is good for 6 months or more, are generally on time and pleasant to fly.

Yes, I love SW's pricing and policies (and generally their service too). But unless you have a direct short flight, it always takes longer on Southwest than on other airlines. And their seating is more cramped than others.

And their seating is more cramped than others. SW has many more direct routes than they used to. As far as the seats being smaller, tell them you need to preboard and fake a limp...then head to the exit row...plenty of room... oh, and unlike other airlines, SW pre-bought several gajillion gallons of jet fuel a couple of years back at a set price (which was high then, but low now), which is why they are one of the few airlines still making a profit...

I just booked our November trip on AirTran, in large part due to American's announcement. (Now let's just cross our fingers that AirTran doesn't go under between now and then.)
