Is it possible to put a hold on a check because it may fall outside a normal deposit pattern?

I'm being told that at a "former bank", a computer simulation model was run that would flag deposits outside of a normal pattern for holds.

Sounds like this Computer Model might ID something outside "Normal" and therefore they placed a "Case By Case" hold on those & gave next day to everything else.
I don't see how you could make it fit any of the "Exception" hold reasons = Large Deposit / New Acct / Doubt Collectibility /
Frequent OD / Redeposit of returned ck /

Not per Reg CC to my knowledge, not unless you have reserved the right to hold items under the exception hold reasons afforded by reg CC, and the deposit item meets one of those criteria.

A computer program is not a "reasonable cause to doubt collectability"
Exception reasons include:
1. Check stale dated or post-dated
2. Check previously returned unpaid
3. Customer engaged in kiting
4. Unable to verify endorsement of a payee
5. Check deposits exceed $5000 for a single business day
6. Customer's account repeatedly overdrawn
7. Emergency conditions (War, natural disaster, etc.)

Certainly a computer program can be a tool, and for a "flagged" deposit, if one of the above reasons apply, use and exception hold. If none of the above reasons apply, then a case-by-case.
