Puerto Rico aside, the funeral march has begun for Senator Clinton.

As of this morning, Senator Obama is 44 delegates away from the nomination.

Is there still a way for Senator Clinton to win?

CNN says 46, not 44.

Can she win? It is possible. She needs to peel away superdelegates that have already committed to Obama and pick up virtually all the uncommitted superdelegates.

Will she win? I don't think so. I just don't see her succeeding in doing what she needs to do. But, I don't think that will stop her from trying. This is her one and only shot to be President. She doesn't give a rat's posterior about party unity. She wants to win. She will keep trying until it is absolutely clear she has lost.

And don't forget, Obama might be killed giving her the nomination, as she suggested.

Nah, the Rev. Huckabee claims Obama's duck reflex is too good.

CNN just reported that most of the seventeen Democratic senators who have remained uncommitted throughout the primaries will endorse Barack Obama for president this week.

It is an unlikely scenario, but it is possible that Obama rolls out enough SuperDelegate endorsements today to be able to put himself over the threshold tomorrow night after Montana and South Dakota.

But even if Obama does secure enough endorsements, do you think Hillary will quit? Personally, I don't.

I agree with BF..she will appeal the decision to split the FL and MI delegates.....she could care less about unity. Win at all costs.

And then, she'll most likely run as an independent if that fails.

There's no point playing guessing games, but Clinton's event in New York appears to be something a bit bigger than a minor election night in two small states she's likely to lose might suggest.

The venue she's booked, at Baruch College, is quite large.

And Clinton's finance director, Jonathan Mantz, sent an email out to top donors inviting them to the event, of which I've obtained a copy.

For what it's worth.

PR, anyone who's not a Democrat or Republican isn't even counted yet.

Pale,

The Republican party has penalized several states for not following their rules by stripping away half their delegates. So, the Democrats seat all their delegates but only give them 1/2 votes. The Republicans give their delegate full votes, but only seat half of them.

Neither approach is a particularly good one, but political parties are private clubs, their whacky rules are their own business.

Uncommitted Pennsylvania Rep. Altmire says Obama is pushing supers to endorse him during the day Tuesday so he’ll have enough delegates to declare victory that evening.
Tells the AP: “He apparently is telling people that he has the numbers, and that’s what’s going to happen, at which point it would become moot what the rest of us do.”

true up to a point AML, but the primary decision on the Pubbie side has not impact on the outcome, while it has the potential for significant impact in the Democrat primary

and as my friend Neo understands, I care less than a rat's tail about the democrat primary, this is simply taking pleasure in a party that wanted all the votes counted in Florida previously but now only wants to count half the votes not only in Michigan but Florida - its a juicy irony, no?

As of yesterday, Clinton's campaign was still giving it a go here in SD. My wife and I each received calls on our cell phones even though neither of us are registered Dems (she independent, myself Libertarian) and can't vote as SD has a closed primary, and someone else did a lit drop while we were out of the house.

Not really. The juiciness depends on your willingness to confuse primary politics with an actual election.

Unless you want to compare the irony to the bracing honesty of the Republican attitude that stripping away half the delegates is unimportant because their votes don't matter anyway.

In addition to the difference between an election and a nominating process, all the votes in Florida and Michigan were counted. The issue was not whether the vote totals were correct as it was in 2000, but rather what delegates would be seated and counted under the rules.
