LOL, I'm from Pittsburgh originally, so trust me, I'm not fru-fru, but you do get indoctrinated into the FL lingo. Same here, but from Philly. Down here they would look at you funny if you called it a screen room.

There's more funny stuff said in Pgh than there is here: babushka, yinz, souside, pierogies, primantis, etc.

I just thought they were either screened in porches or screened in patios...I'm going to have to call mine (when it's finished) the fancy name (once I make sure of the pronouciation) and watch the weird looks from people. I did hear a patio, not screened tho I don't think...on HGTV the other day called something totally different from anything I'd heard before...but I don't remember what it was!

Okay, Yunz guys, I'm from the Burgh too ("Pixburg") and the only thing I can think that they call them here is Patio Enclosures, Custom Patio Rooms, Sunroom and the new one that I have heard is Polycarbonate Enclosure (which is actually just the material that the enclosure is made from)..

out of the frying pan...

Here's how it was explained to me:
Porch - roofed, open sided or screened, usually involves rocking chairs, swings, and/or sweet tea Patio - paved floor on ground level, no roof Deck - raised wood floor, no roof Lanai - started life as either a patio or deck but was enclosed by lattice/climbing plants Sunroom (Florida Room) - started life as a porch and then was glassed in.
Does that help?

Hmmm... but on the Golden Girls, they had a Lanai and it was like a fancy patio.

I would be less concerned what the difference is between a lanai and a patio and re-examine why you've watched the Golden Girls.

I could understand why you would Pale, you're probably their senior by 20 or 30 years.

LOL, Peepers, you're the best.
In FL, the lanai is any screened patio area.

we are in a Hurricane evacuation path, 150 miles from the coast, which is about how far the backup was for Hurricane Rita, plus there wasn't a bottle of water to buy for 100 miles around! I am 240 +/- miles from the coast...and people freaked out about Rita here! Bought everything that Wal-Mart and HEB carried...and wouldn't you know that was when we needed a loaf of bread for lunches the next day?? I can't tell you for sure that it even rained here...

In FL, the lanai is any screened patio area. That is just it, Blanche's porch was not screened in!!
