My most favorite in the whole wide world!!!! (can you picture a 5 year old saying that?) Was my cousin's wedding song. Very seriously the bride and groom asked that their friends and loved ones join them in celebrating their first dance by dancing with them. They stayed in the center. Of course everyone joined in due to this lovely sentimental thought of inclusion and love...and the the song began.... "Put your left leg in, Put your left leg out....do the hokey pokey" It was the funniest thing I've ever seen and should I ever marry again...you'll be hearing of it happening again. What a GREAT way to break the ice at a wedding. It was the best reception I've ever attended, and I used to cater so I've gone to FARRR too many receptions!

Oh I forgot...I chose that stupid Anne Murry Song...
Why do birds hoover in the sky...every time..you walk by....Just like me...they long to be...close to you....
I'm near to hurling as I type such a sappy sentiment right now LOL But then again I got married in a Scarlet O'Hara type hooped gown with about 75 layers of eyelet and red ribbons woven through each layer. E gads and the freaking hat!!! I could house a small family under that stupid flower filled concoction of frew frew!

Change the World--written by Simms/Kennedy/Kirkpatrick
performed by Eric Clapton
If I can reach the stars, Pull one down for you, Shine it on my heart So you could see the truth: That this love I have inside Is everything it seems. But for now I find It's only in my dreams.
And I can change the world, I will be the sunlight in your universe. You would think my love was really something good, Baby if I could change the world.
And if I could be king, Even for a day, I'd take you as my queen; I'd have it no other way. And our love would rule This kingdom we had made. Till then I'd be a fool, Wishing for the day...
That I can change the world, I would be the sunlight in your universe. You would think my love was really something good, Baby if I could change the world. Baby if I could change the world.
I could change the world, I would be the sunlight in your universe. You would think my love was really something good, Baby if I could change the world. Baby if I could change the world. Baby if I could change the world.

My cousin had an all-polka reception. Please don't do this.

Thomasj - That is "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". Funny you should start this thread - my husband is in a wedding tommorrow, so I have to take the day off to partake in the festivities. Actually, the wedding is Friday AND Saturday - the kids are getting married in a church on Friday, then having a ceremony in the state capitol on Saturday. They could not have a priest in the capitol ceremony; something about the separation of church and state. Couldn't believe it! They gave us an agenda for the two days. Leave hotel for tux fitting, leave tux store go to capitol for dry run, go back to hotel to get ready for church ceremony... It is crazy! Things have sure changed since I got married. All I care about is that the champagne is cold and there is plenty of it. That's all I need to keep me happy and smiling while Man of My Life parades around in a penquin suit. Oh, but he looks so dashing in a suit!

Skye - This was my wedding song as well - nice choice! I had not assumed that this question was necessarily posed as "first dance" song, so as a song to be played at a reception, I will vote for Funky Cold Medina & You Can Leave Your Hat On.

Sorry, I should have specified, I didn't mean "Wedding Dance" song, I meant the song that as soon as it starts everyone rushes to the dance floor!

I gueess for me it would be "Walk Like an Egyptian". It didn't matter how good or bad people were at dancing. The whole purpose of the song was for people to look silly.

The Twist, Twist & Shout, or Shout. Basically anything where you're twisting or shouting will get people moving.

"Baby got back"
This one always seems to bring people to the dance floor. Hopefully that is the name of the song!

If it is the one I have heard, it is a sexist song about black women having large rear ends. By Sir Mixalot.

Now I KNOW it's cheesy, but the one song that seems to get young and old moving at the wedding receptions I've attended is... Y M C A (You know you're doing the movements in your head and singing "Young Man..." !)
