He was suppose to perform here in Chicago soon, what a shame. Funny, funny man!

He really shoved the envelope. They replayed a segment of him in an interview with Matt Lauer this morning. He said (paraphrasing the best I can remember) "When I perform I have this imaginary line that I think I can go to without becoming offensive, then I cross it!"

In his memory, let us just take a few moments to utter the seven words you cannot say on TV/radio, quietly under our breath.

How sad...many many years ago (late 50s and early 60s), when he was just starting, he was a radio DJ in Ft Worth Tx, and the station had a win a date with george carlin contest. My mother wrote the station and said she was the head of his fan club, so she won the date (she was in junior year of HS at the time). She said he was the perfect gentleman when not performing, and they kept in touch in the many years since...

More of George's comparison of football and baseball Baseball is played on a diamond, in a park. The baseball park! Football is played on a GRIDIRON, in a STADIUM, sometimes called SOLDIER FIELD or WAR MEMORIAL STADIUM. In football you wear a helmet In baseball you wear a cap. Football is concerned with downs. "What down is it? Baseball is concerned with ups. "Who's up? Are you up? I'm not up! He's up!" In football you recieve a penalty. In baseball you make an error. In football the specialist comes in to kick. In baseball the specialist comes in to relieve somebody. Football has hitting, clipping, spearing, piling on, personal fouls, late hitting, and unnecessary roughness. Baseball has the sacrifice. Football is played in any kind of weather: Rain, snow, sleet, hail, fog...can't see the game, don't know if there is a game going on; mud on the field...can't read the uniforms, can't read the yard markers, the struggle will continue! In baseball if it rains, we don't go out to play. "I can't go out! It's raining out!" Baseball has the seventh-inning stretch. Football has the two-minute warning Baseball has no time limit: "We don't know when it's gonna end!" Football is rigidly timed, and it will end "even if we have to go to sudden death."

In memory of George:
I don’t like to attend funerals. When I die, I don’t want a funeral, because I’m sure of one thing: If I don’t like other people’s funerals, I’m going to hate my own.

The forecast for tonight: dark.
And why do they always tell you the temperature at the airport? Nobody lives at the airport!
Happy, that is so cool about your mom.
I ♥ George Carlin.

Interesting, but not surprising, note from the cnn.com article -
He dropped out of high school in the ninth grade and joined the Air Force, where his misfit ways continued -- he received three courts-martial and several punishments.

I think it finally dawns on you that you're starting to get older when the musicians and entertainers and actors that you adored and admired start dying. Geesh - Paul McCartney - who everyone my age was in love with is 65. George Carlin dead at 71. I now understand Peter Pan :::::I won't grow up, I won't grow up, I won't grow up.......::
