My favorite whines:

"I don't want to eat my vegetables"
"Why do I have to make my bed, It's just going to be used again tonight"

Wow! I can't thank you all enough for all the info. I will definitely check out the local wineries mentioned and all the websites provided. Boatn Shasta I will be looking forward to hearing your report on Monday! I know there are some terrific wines coming out of the Pacific Northwest. You all have mentioned some of mya favorites and some new ones that are perking my tastebuds! Can't wait to try them! Oh..... and Peeps although I appreciate your input - I have those "whines" too often at my house and they don't leave a very good "finish"!

Being a Loozeana boy, I'm partial to Mogen David...a little MD20/20 is always right for starting the night off!!!
Just kidding folks, not a wine drinker at all. But Ms. Gilmore likes Sterling Pinot Noir Hey Happy! Being a "Loozeana Boy" I would have thought that "clear stuff" might be to your liking?! Definitely more potent than 20/20!

I'm more of a red fan - one of my favorite is Ravenswood Zinfindel. My favorite white is Ménage a Trios - it's a mix of three grapes (so bring your minds back to reality ). It's fairly reasonable - we'll usually buy a case or 2 when its on sale.

We love the Australian shirazes too.
One of the things I have found most helpful is the book "The Wine Bible." I keep it on hand and, when planning a meal, look it up and see what they recommend. Or, when I try a wine I really like, I'll look it up and read about it. If I get that extra information while I'm actively thinking about it, it seems to stick in my head better. For example, if I just had a wine I liked with a grilled meal, and then study and see that it's a shiraz, and that shirazes go well with grilled meals, then that's easier to remember next time I'm standing in the wine aisle of the grocery store trying to decide what to buy.

.....or how about just some BOLers who enjoy a good glass of wine? My husband, knowing I do like a good glass of wine, bought me a small wine fridge and I try to keep it stocked with bottles I enojoy, but I also like to try new labels and varietals.
Anyone have a favorite they are willing to share? (Red, White, Rose, Sparkling - doesn't matter, I like 'em all!)
Thanks!! Good morning! You should check out http://www.winecountrygiftbaskets.com/They have some really wonderful wine based gift baskets that are really reasonably priced...maybe as a gift for yourself

Boone's Farm - The Strawberry varietal is excellent... you can pick it up on the north or southshore.... seems i can find it just about anywhere in metairie.

I have a strong preference for Australian wines. My daily drinker is Yellow Tail (Shiraz, Cab Sav or Merlot). There are significant numbers of very reasonably priced wines under $10. Unless I'm buying Moet Chandon Champagne (CA winery), I rarely spend more than $7 a bottle for wine.
I, too, enjoy shopping the labels and the names. There are some real hoots out there. My favorite is in a bottle that leans to the side (like it's melting) and it's called Another %*(#@%&! Merlot!! I can easily spend an hour in the wine section of a liquor store just browsing........and filling my cart!

GiftofLife,
If you ever want a really interesting chance to browse wines, take a trip to Cincinnati. There is a "grocery store" and I use that term loosely here, called Jungle Jims. They currently stock over 10,000 different wines from around the world, including a ton of smaller wineries. Prices range from bottles under $10 that are great to the rarer, more expensive wines that cost an arm, a leg, and a first born son. It's unreal, and that's just a small part of the store. Their international foods section is bigger!

The ones we always have on hand... White (for me) - Obsession (I think it's Ironstone or Ironside winery-we're been buying it for so long I don't read the label anymore ) Red (for my husband) - Smoking Loon Cabernet Both are reasonably priced. The white is fairly sweet, kind of like a riesling (but not as sweet, in my opinion).

Well, the winetasting day went great!
There are more vineyards in this area than you could possibly visit in one day!
My new favorites: Jacksonville Winery & Fiasco Winery (same owner & maker) the J-ville Claret was amazing.
Also this area makes some awesome Viogners, I like Daisy Creek.
If anyone ever makes it out to the Southern Oregon area I really do recommend speding a day this way, Applegate valley and Jacksonville are really picturesque and beautiful!

I like a nice box of Corbet Canyon.... it is so handy to carry that and a ice bucket and glass around as I work my way through the neighbor hood in the summer!
