Thanks Dave, right now I wish I was "shrooming", but today, I feel exactly like a mushroom, if you know what I mean.
It's looking like a double Tanqueray on the rocks, tonight!

That's cause all you right handed people are so mean to us! Making us sit at right-handed desks, and cut with right handed scissors, and open cans with right handed manual can openers...

My first job was as a dishwasher/ kitchen assistant in a small diner. The owner of the diner was left handed, and had the kitchen set up to accomodate his left handedness. As a right hander, I found this arrangement to be rather dangerous at times. So I can certainly sympathise with you, Lestie.

We have several lefties in my family. Many years ago I was in Indianapolis and found a store with left handed items only (pot holders; card decks, scissors, etc.). I bought several things as Christmas gifts for my younger brother and nephew.

I've been to that store! Like Ned Flanders' "Leftorium". Southpaws of the world unite!

The shortest chapter in the Bible is Psalms 117;

The longest chapter in the Bible is Psalms 119;

The chapter in the center of the Bible is Psalms 118;

Fact: There are 594 chapters before Psalms 118

Fact: There are 594 chapters after Psalms 118

Add these numbers up and you get 1188

The center verse in the Bible is Psalms 118:8

This verse says something significant about God's perfect will for our lives.

Psalms 118:8 (NKJV) "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."

I always thought that was pretty kewl!

And here's another one. If you look in the King James Version of the Bible, go to Psalm 46. Counting from the beginning of the psalm, the 46th word is "shake." Counting from the end of the psalm, the 46th word is "spear." Some people have claimed this indicates that Shakespeare was one of the translators of the KJV (it is historically possible, but highly unlikely).

That's very interesting! No one in my family is left-handed but me. I have one little baby niece who picks up everything with her left hand, or transfers it to her left hand. I hope it sticks!

I am ambidextrous favoring the left - I write, eat and brush my teeth with my left. But I usually throw and play most sports right. Things like hammer - I can handle either way. I'm taking boxing and the instructor has decided I should box left. I swear, I have days when I wake up left-handed and days when I wake up right-handed. The strange thing is, that uni-dextrous people seem to think that only being able to do things with one hand is better than being able to do things with both! I'd think instead that you guys would be jealous!

I can throw and play most sports equally bad with either hand! Does that make me ambidextrous? I usally take full advantage of the left-handed thing in playing sports. Make a bad throw, and you just shrug and say, "This is really hard when you're left handed."

Better take than number down to 24, not 26. First, one of the supposed states listed is "Carolina". There is no state named "Carolina". There is "South Carolina" and "North Carolina", but they've always been separate states. Second, contrary to the information from the Bureau of Engraving quoted by John, the listing on the building in the picture is for "Hampshire", not "New Hampshire" (I checked it under a magnifying glass to make sure). Again, there is not now, nor has there ever been a state in the US named "Hampshire".

I think there are only 26 states on the back of the $5 bill

Even less than 26. The Lincoln Memorial has all of the states engraved around the top, but it takes 4 sides of the memorial to show them all. Since only 1 side of the Memorial is pictured on the $5 bill, not all can be seen.

Actually, there are 26 states named. Only 48 states existed in 1922, which the time from which the picture of the Memorial is taken. From the official Bureau of Engraving and Printing website:

Quote:

The vignette on the reverse of the five-dollar note depicts a likeness of the face of the Lincoln Memorial as it appeared in 1922 when it was first dedicated. At that time, there were only 48 states that made up the United States of America. The names of 26 states were engraved on the front of the Memorial. This is why only the names of 26 states appear in the vignette on the reverse of the five-dollar note. In the upper frieze of the façade in the vignette the states are from left to right: Arkansas, Michigan, Florida, Texas, Iowa, Wisconsin, California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas, West Virginia, Nevada, Nebraska, Colorado, and North Dakota. In the lower frieze from left to right the names of the states are: Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia and New York.

I am right handed by assimilation.

As a small child, I picked up my crayolas and fed myself with my left hand. My brother, who is six years my senior and has always served as my mentor, consistently corrected me to the use of my right hand. He was right handed and felt that I was doing it wrong. With thorough training I learned to use my right hand. Was I to be right or left handed, I am now uncertain.

Let's see....I play golf, baseball, and most sports right handed. I play hockey left handed. I prefer my right, but can do most things with my left (writing just looks funny, but I can do it).
I even took a test that determined if you were "right or left" brained. I discovered I'm middle brained (no one side is dominate, I have both traits of right and left brained people).
