Our teller trainer wants to ensure that she is instructing her new, incoming tellers appropriately. In the past, she has always instructed her new hires to stamp the back of a check (with the "pay any bank" stamp) when accepting a check for a loan payment. Recently, one of her students who used to work for another bank commented that her previous instructor said that this step was not necessary. She said that the encoding/endorsements that the proof machines place on the back of the checks were enough.

Who's right? Any cite to back up your answers would be helpful, too. Thanks...julie
