O.K. Queen of the stupid questions here again!! We are located in South Central Georgia. When looking under the list of Routing numbers listed under the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, are just the ones listed under the Head Office such as 0610,0611,0612,0613,2610,2611,2612,2613 the routing numbers that will be local to my bank and all others will be considered non-local items.

I'm really not totally stupid, my brain has just been affected by the overload of Compliance issues.

In order to assist our tellers with "holds" I asked the operations manager to find out what the "local" and "non-local" routing numbers for our Fed district were. Someone at Fed told her that basically all checks were now local.......so obviously now there is some confusion. Our bank is now is the 4th district - Cincinnati Branch. The routing numbers listed under that section would be considered local...all other routing numbers would be considered non-local. Is that correct? Thanks

You'll find this information in Appendix A to Regulation CC. Remember that you look for the check processing region in which your branch office is located, not your main office or where your back office operation is located. Notice also that the Cincinatti branch handles checks for many parts of the Fifth, Seventh, and Eighth districts.

So, it is correct that all the routing numbers listed under the Cincinnati Branch are consider "local" for our bank since our processing is through Cincinnit Branch - 4th district? The routing numbers that are listed under "Head Office" and "Columbus Office" are considered non-local? This is always an area of confusion to us. Thanks for clarification.

If your branch office is located in the territory served by the Cincinnati Fed branch, then only those banks with (first four digit) routing numbers listed under the Cincinnati branch (including those from Districts 5, 7, and 8) are local to you. Those listed under the other Fed offices (Columbus and Head office), are as non-local as those listed under the San Francisco Fed.
