Hello

Our Human Resource Manager has asked me to find out from the group the amount of time which a full or part time employee must take for lunch. Is there such a rule under H/R regulations? I am not an expert on this subject. Thanks for your help.

Go to page 3 of this forum and see the threads on Meals and Breaks times. There is a quick site to get the info you need.

Page numbers are different based on how each user has their preferences set, but clicking on 'search' and entering "Meals and Break Times" should yield the thread Bob is referencing.

Actually, the amount of time for the lunch breaks is generally determined according to State labor laws. I suggest you contact your state labor department for the regs. Many states also have such information online.

From the FAQs on the IN Dept of Labor web site on wage and hour laws:

Q. Is my employer required to give me time off for lunch or breaks?

A. Indiana employers must provide a continuous 30-minute break to teens, under the age of 18, who are scheduled to work six or more consecutive hours. The law requires that these teens receive a break between their third and fifth hours of work.

If you are over 18 years of age, Indiana law does not require your employer to give time off for lunch or breaks.

I guess I'm in Indiana, then. Go figure...

Oklahoma is almost like Indiana. No lunch time is required, however we did offer a break for every four hours worked.
