Ok, I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to use the NZ function to convert null values to zeros in Access 2003. Anyone able to explain it to me?

I love/hate Microsoft Access.

I'm not sure if this is even anywhere close to what you're trying to do.

This is guessing but I got it to update a field to 0 if it was null and leave it alone if it wasn't null by using an update query, with the Nz function in the "update to" area.

Nz («expr», «valueifnull»)

«expr» is what you want it to update to if it's not null. In this case I wanted it to stay the same, so I navigated to the same field.

So here's what my "update to" argument looks like:

Nz([This month's complete file]![TIN],0)

The table name was "This month's complete file" and the field I was updating was "TIN".

It worked.

But it seems like it would have been much easier to just update TIN to "0" for the criteria "Is Null".
