While DeBerry is certainly guilty of exercising poor judgment, I don't think he deserves to be verbally flogged. He was stating his opinion -- arguably a stereotype -- based on an observation. His comments, IMO, weren't derogatory.
Take it from someone who played for the man, he is in no way a racists or a bigot (as some people thing). There wasn't even anything stereotypical about what he said, the only thing his comments revealed were the truth.
Personally, I just posted it to stir the pot a bit. I was more commenting on the combination of "Team Jesus" and his view of blacks as if they were another species. Seems to fit into the stereotypes way too easily. However I'm not sure if your bias has anything to do with your impression of Fisher on 2 levels.
I don't happen to agree with the "team Jesus" banner he had (has no place in athletics), and yes I probably am a little biased toward him. That still doesn't change the fact that what he said was the truth, and in most ways a complement (I only wish I could run like some blacks can).
Me too. Although I have a great deal of speed for a big white guy I do not have the hops. Once again, I was only commenting on the combination of his 2 instances of watercooler fodder.
