I live just north of Indy, so "will Dungy stay or will he go" has certainly been all the buzz in the local media since the Colts lost in the playoffs. Dungy's family moved back to Tampa a year or two ago, and the separation has reportedly been difficult. Dungy has also said he would like to focus on charity work as well as having more family time. I would imagine that the team's failure to live up to expectations in the postseason the last two years came into play as well.

I do not follow football (but have a husband who does), so I can't offer much more than what has been said the last few days on the local news. They did say this morning that if Dungy chose to leave, his replacement is already in place--an assistant head coach, although I couldn't tell you his name.

Dungy has been a great asset to Indy, not just in football. He will be missed in the community.

I wonder if his focus on life changed since the death of his son a couple of years back...seems like it would be hard to dedicate yourself to football the way a head coach must in order to be successful

Happy, I think there can be no doubt that his Son's suicide figures in overwhelmingly to his decision. How can that not be on his mind most seconds of every minute?

He wants to help youth, and maybe be a factor in preventing such tragedies from taking place again. And if anyone can do it, it is Tony Dungy. He is an exemplary person in so many ways.

In the Snow :)
We watched the Eagles game with some friends yesterday, and one of them commented on how much weight Andy Reid had gained. He had really slimmed down for a bit, but is now back to what he was, if not possibly heavier. Our friend then wondered if it had to due with two of his sons being in jail for drugs, weapons, violating probation, etc.

These men have all encompassing jobs. It must be tremendously difficult on their families. Tony Dungy seems like a class act and a gentleman. Losing a child rips your heart out. I hope he finds the peace and fulfillment that brings him some closure.

I bet he even stays retired for a few years, despite all the tears that reminded me of Favre....

Bugs,

Head Coach of Indy Colts. An awesome man by all accounts, including his players.

There is an article in the LA Times - sounds like he was ready to retire and Caldwell will be taking over.
