This is kind of a cool story for any baseball fans out there. Pat Venditte, is a switch pitcher in the Yankees' farm system. He throws both lefty and righty! I've never heard or seen anything like it. Here's the article about him:

Here's a picture of the special, two thumbed glove he uses when pitching:

The switch-pitcher:

Pretty cool stuff!

WOW!! When I throw left handed I look like a girl.

My friend in HS, was this way in basketball. He was naturally right handed, but he could shoot the ball just as well left handed as he could right handed. When going to the free through line, he would shoot the first shot right handed then the second one left handed.

He was also a switchhitter in basball, but preferred to hit left handed.

I'm left-handed, but I bat right. I wish I had learned how to hit lefty. I could've been a washed up ball player by now!!!

So basically this guy could pitch twice as many times per year than other pitchers, which would mean he could lose to the Red Sox even more often!

There was a guy who could do this that played for an independent-league (The Fronteir League) baseball team in my town, about ten years ago. He had the double-web glove and everything. The only problem was, he didn't throw particularly hard with either hand, so I don't think he ever made it to a major league organization. I think there was a rule that he couldn't switch hands during an at-bat.

I went to Creighton when he was there, so I have spent the past couple seasons watching him. The amazing thing is that he was really effective throwing with either hand.

The really interesting thing is when a switch hitter comes to bat against him. The umps usuaully are unsure about who must "claim" which side they're going to hit or pitch from first. Can be kind of funny watching the batter walk back and forth between the different sides of the batter's box until the umps make someone make up their mind.

That is pretty cool. No call to the bullpen for the "lefty specialist"... I wonder if he would get some warm up tosses if he switched?
