There was an old man who lived back a quite dead in lane way out in the country next to my grandfather farm. Itwas the most peaceful little cottage facing down the stream. Everyday, we would go back and check on him to see how he was doing.

One day we pulled up and he was sitting in his rocking chair with his dog laying by his side.

We walked up to the porch and called out his name. He looked like he was asleep. He was hard of hearing, so we called out louder trying not to scare him. But it soon was obvious to us, he was no longer with us.

I thought to myself, when it is my time to go, I hope I go like he did. On my front porch with my dog by my side, staring down the lane.

Not in some god forsaken rest home with tubes stuck in me.

Yes. I do not want to die in a hospital, or nursing home etc. My wife is a nurse and works in an "assisted living" - like a nursing home but for seniors who need less care. She's seen several patients - terminal cancer patients and seniors who are just wasting - they won't eat because they physically can't just suffer at the end of their lives. I don't want to go that way.
