Last i heard, there were over 60,000 responses to elected officials sent by community banks conerning proposed legislation on the financial reform package. That seems to me like community bankers are wanting to be involved in the process.

Oh, wait...do you mean they aren't agreeing with you? is that what you mean by involved?

That sounds like a threat. What a sad commentary on today's Congress:

"Cooperate with us, or we'll go harder on you, regardless of what is right or wrong or helps consumers the most."

I saw that quote that JJ posted in the ABA newsletter. A few minutes later, I read this quote from Barney in the ICBA newsletter:

Frank: Community Banks Didn’t Cause Financial Crisis
House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) said community banks did not engage in the practices that caused the financial crisis. “The community banks are not the ones who did subprime mortgages, not the ones who did predatory loans,” Frank said at a news conference on the future of financial regulation.

Frank also disputed claims that Community Reinvestment Act lenders contributed to the crisis, noting the problem loans came from the unregulated sector of the financial services industry. He also said community banks would not be targeted by the proposed Consumer Financial Protection Agency, leverage limits and a new resolution authority would address too-big-to-fail financial institutions, and Congress could pass regulatory reform legislation by the end of the year.

Frank and Kennedy will be elected for as long as they run. The fools in this state beleive what he says. This is the same guy that last July was still holding up the Fannie/Freddie flag...he is a buffoon...

He's up again in 2010, but last time I think he got 66% of the vote so unless something happens to him, doesn't look like he will be defeated soon.

Good grief, someone please wake up the people of Mass.

Ok, trying not to be insulted here since I am from MA but I have never voted for these clowns and never would. Unfortunately they get the votes from the Boston area. The rest of us know better - western MA tends to be less trusting of incumbent politicians. I swear sometimes even the rest of MA believes the state ends at the Worcester line and we don't even exist. That's why we are now being mega-taxed to make up for the Big Dig fiasco. Don't lump me in with those idiots.
