Pulling people out of the ditc...
|
was heading out on a nice 20 mile ride last night, was about 5 miles from home when the derailer started making a funny noise. As i slowed down to check it out, right as i unclipped from the pedals the bracket that it attaches to broke from the frame. Chain locked up the front sprocket and bent the outer chain ring...so i'll be spending lunch today going to see if it is repairable (likely not) and then i guess shopping for a new bike. I'm very sad, I love this bike, and don't really want to buy another one.
But i need this one fixed or another one soon, I have a century ride at the end of this month...
So, with this sad story, I open the bar. Come cry in a beer with me...
my non-bike riding wife couldn't understand why I was in a funk last night...it's just a bike she says...just a bike? i have almost 4,000 miles on it this year alone, and close to 15,000 in the 5 years i've had it...this is nnot just a bike.....

Sorry for your loss (should this be in the couch). You may be able to get it welded at a welding only place, that can weld aluminum. Not a task that any welder can do.
Best of luck

Nows your chance to get the one you have been wanting. And maybe it will have the sissy bar, and streamers out the handlebars, and that cool thing that clicks in the spokes. Oh and of course a big orange flag so cars can see you.

That really bites...wanna buy a Cannondale R3000 CAAD4? Okay, seriously, though....all you need is a frame and an outer chain ring, right? You can probably find a frame identical to yours on ebay. What size frame do you ride and what kind of bike do you have?

Sorry about the bike Happy. I just got my Trek 2300 Carbon Fiber racing bike after mothballing it for about 10 years. I didn't remember how much fun it was riding.
Hope you get it repaired, or you can get a new one before your century ride. New and shiny is nice.

It is a KHS, size 56 cm, carbon fiber so welding is likely not an option. I'm hoping they'll say it's defective and replace it free (but I'm also dreaming if I really think this is gonna happen).
TJ - The Dogma is clearly my dream bike, but since I just bought my wife a new car Wednesday, likely that won't happen.
MB - Campy components...
Aggs - no rust on this, spent way too much money for it to gather rust...

Is it too late to return the car?

TJ - I actually told her last night that if I had known it was going to break and I'd have to get a new one we wouldn't have bought the car. That heat wave we were having in south Louisiana? Well, it's over now...very cold in my house last night, very cold...

Sorry for your loss Happy.
I'm feeling a little exotic today, like maybe I need one of those fruity drinks. So how bout if you throw a little lime and salt in my Bud Light. And make it a double. Thanks much.

Well, it's over now...very cold in my house last night, very cold... You bought her a car, the least she could do is buy you a bike.... (Disclaimer: This attitude may be the reason I will soon be divorced)
