Why are they losing so many homes?

Why are they losing so many homes? Sheer overwhelming fires and serious lack of manpower and water. I have a friend down there that sent some pics. Its overwhelming. The fires here (oklahoma) have been awful but the scope of that fire, the size of the wall of flames is like some apocolyptic! Short of serious rain, I dont know how they will stop it. Prayers for those folks...

Bastrop is a beautiful rural area, mostly wooded and containing the Lost Pines forests of cental Texas. There are a few concentrated developments of homes right in the middle of these forests.
With the wind at 30-40 miles an hour, a drought and not much available water, there is no stopping the firewall...trees just explode, all you can do is run....

All the fires in East Texas seem to be north, south and west of Tyler, Longview and Kilgore)
GREGG COUNTY

All residents on Swamp City Road on either side of Hwy 135 to FM 2207 are being evacuated due to Moore fire. Cole Bottom Road south to Wilkins Road--evacuations still in effect on FM 2207 between Hwy 135 and Wilkins Road.
Maude Cobb Convention center will be housing any evacuees and their pets.
ANDERSON COUNTY
(Jacksonville area)
South of Hwy 294, north of CR 118 and CR 122, and west of FM 322 to the Leon County Line. A shelter has been set up at Dogwood Hill Baptist Church on Hwy 79 E.
SMITH COUNTY
(this is Tyler)
Jackson Fire on Hwy 31 and FM 2767 has been contained and no evacuations are in place.
RUSK COUNTY
(this is Henderson)
Anyone living on the following County Roads in Rusk County must evacuate immediately.

There's a pretty good google map with all of them listed. Good is probably the wrong word.....accurate may be better. Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona have had it bad for fires. I appologize if I left anyone out and I know the storms and flooding have been just as devastating... You when this carp happens to other countries we send armies to help them. Anybody seen the French here to help? -.-

For those of you in TX, local 4-H clubs and County Extension offices are acting as drop off sites for supplies to be delivered to firefighters battling these blazes. They're asking for cases of water/gatorade, protein snacks, and lip balm. Contact your local 4-H or County Office for more info. (link below) Operation Supply Drop
