We're planning our annual trek to AZ this Fall. In searching new sites I ran across Havasu Falls. We love the GC and are spending some time there but I'm looking for another site to visit. We love nature and so we focus on that. Would love to hear from someone who has been to the Falls....We will be staying in the Sedona area and the GC area for a number of days...can't tell which route to take to get to the Falls......
Thanks

I'm pretty sure SPRING break doesnt occur in the FALL.

I'd suggest reaching out to BaconShazam, he is in that area and loves to meet other BOLers, and will probably offer to play tour guide for you.

You will sometimes see some interesting interpretations on what folks consider the required minimum of clothing there. smile

Lake Havasu is the spring break destination in southwest AZ. Havasu Falls is part of the Grand Canyon in northern AZ. I've only flown into LH once to have breakfast on my way to Bullhead City to spend a day in Laughlin; never been to HF (or the GC for that matter).

But there are some wineries not too far from the latter, if I'm not mistaken.

On Adam Richman's best sandwich in America show, there is a BLT out east somewhere that uses about a pound of bacon.

It looks divine.

Trees, Are you talking about Havasu Falls and NOT Lake Havasu? There is a huge difference. I have been to both. Havasu Falls in on the Havasupai Indian reservation on the far southwestern edge of the Grand Canyon. Not in the National Park. It is absolutely fabulous. It is a long hike in, 10 miles I believe, unless you opt for the expensive helicopter. But well worth the hike or expense, either way. I spent 5 days there a few years ago. There are falls and river beauty that photos will not do justice. I would recommend it be on any avid outdoorperson's life list. it is not a day trip, it is a multi-day trip.

We go on an annual fall trip to AZ as well. LOVE Sadona, last year it was entirely too crowded and touristy. We decided to spend some more time in Cortez CO this year. We are looking for outdoorsy places to go as well. Let me know if you find some. We have a little airstream to take around and love to explore before and after the "family" thing.

I think Jerome is one cool little town, clinging to the side of a mountain. It's popular with motorcycle bikers and artsy folk. I hike on the Mogollon Rim is also quite stunning.

Saw Jerome, too. Interesting place, both to get to and to see. I was thinking about the Falls but it sounds like it will take more than a day trip, darn it. We'll have to circle back to that one. I reserved three days near GC, but not in it. We love to hike and will do so without having to look forward to driving back to our place the same day. I was hoping to take a side trip to the Falls. We'll take the desert view ride instead.

Sedona is very beautiful. We try to go after the kids are back in school...early fall, usually but it is one of those places that is getting a lot of press, well, too much, actually. So, it is slowly turning into a retirement destination for those that can afford $500,000.+ one bedroom homes. At least they can't develop the red hills, although there are pockets where the developers have gotten their mitts on them as well.

BaconBoy: Where is the Mongollon Rim? We will also be staying near Tucson for a few days. We've hiked the Nat. park there (both east and West) and visited the Museum of the Desert....have any tips for some alternative hiking close by?

If you were heading to Payson from Sedona, you'd be in the Rim Country. It really is amazing! On a clear day, you ca see forever.

I haven't been down to Cowtown in ages, so not too sure what else there is to do there. This morning I heard there is a Vegas-styled casino that opened the end of last year.

Thanks, BB. We don't care for casinos. All about nature, hiking, birds, beasts, critters (except the 8 legged versions, but I saw one large one last year, so I'm over the shock). Rim sounds like it has potential.

The more we visit AZ the more we find it has a lot to offer if you like history, nature, etc. and, frankly, we found the people very laid back and unassuming..... The only peep faces were on Europeans, either visiting or that had retired to AZ. Very sour and haughty - maybe not enough fiber or sugar????

I also like the Bight Angel trail from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to the river. Long, but so very worth it!
Also a multi day trip unless you are a stud and love forced marches. smile
