Police use Taser on 10-year-old at school career day, lawsuit alleges

A lawsuit claims an Albuquerque, N.M., police officer shot a 10-year-old boy with a Taser after he refused to wash his police car.

Officer Christopher Webb was visiting the boy's elementary school for a career day on May 4 when the incident occurred, according to Courthouse News.

During the presentation, Webb apparently asked a group of students if they wanted to wash his patrol car, states the lawsuit. When the 10-year-old identified only as R.D. joking refused, Webb pointed the electronic gun at him and said, "Let me show you what happens to people who do not listen to the police."

Then R.D., who weighs about 100 lbs., was shot in the chest with two barbs and 50,000 volts of electricity, according to Courthouse News.

heard this on the radio this morning...said officer had pulled the cartidge form the taser when explaining to kids how it worked, apparently forgot he put it back on when "in jest" he made the comment to the kid and shot him..."thought" it would just dry fire...

Cop received a 3-day suspension without pay. I'm wondering why he wasn't fired, because in jest or not, you don't point a taser or gun at anyone...

Good question Happy. The first things they tell you in any gun safety course is to treat every gun as if it is loaded and never point at anything you do not intend to shoot.

firing a police officer is a difficult proposition no matter how incompetent they are.

Recently I was at the local police station when one of the officers accidentally discharged a taser into the floor. He was about 3 inches from hitting a computer tower. I thought the other officers were going to die laughing.

Tell the law that around these parts...are you kidding me? They LOVE pointing these things in your face.

First let me say that I think the taser is a wonderful tool for law enforcement and a good option for self defense for those that are not inclined to own a gun. We hear a lot about bad incidents where the taser has caused a problem , but very little about how many 100's of times it has allowed a non-lethal means of controling a person without having to use a baton or other harmful force.
Now, having said that......What an idiot.
