As I have posted in previous posts, my wife and I are expecting a little girl in August. Both of us are planners and we like to be prepared. Some co-workers were asking what we have all done and what we need to do still. We are pretty much all ready just little things here and there. This weekend we are going to install the car seat base into the car. My co-workers think we are WAY over prepared and should chill out. We just don't want to be rushed if she should happend to come a little early.

There is nothing wrong with being proactive. No one ever notices people who are proactive, because they are prepared. People always notice when people have problems - usually from a lack of preparation.

If you both are planners, then plan away. The baby will mess up your plans, a little, when she comes, anyway.

The number 1 best advice I could give another parent, do not worry about what others say or do. You have to do what feels right to you!!

GOOD LUCK!!

there is no such thing as being over prepared.

PS: you do realize that you have a month (and at least a few days after she is in the hosp.) to put the car seat base into the car.

The one thing that you may not be prepared for is lack of sleep to follow.

My advice - plan now - while you still can :-). Once your little bundle is here - your plans will not go as planned, and it will be OK!! She will teach you that the best times will become those you can't plan. Enjoy!!

I would go ahead and install the car seat, then sprinlkle it liberally with apple juice, milk, chex mix, cheerios, and anything else the urchin will be eating in the next 6 years of carsetedness...go ahead and get the mess out of the way early!

You should plan on figuring out how the shoulder straps on the car seat gets so tangiled up when the kid doesn't even move....

That drives me bonkers straighten them out.

There is no way that you can be fully prepared for what is about to happen to you. No way.

The one thing that you should have already started, though, is saving for the little one's college.

Thanks all! I do realize we have over a month for the car seat but my fear she will go early and I don't want to mess with it while she is in the hospital.

We both realize that after she is hear...our plans are probably out the window!

nothing wrong with planning ahead - but the 549 cases of diapers stored in your garage maybe is taking it to the extreme

Get used to it she will never put the thing in her car by herself anyway.

Not sure about your area, but the hospitals around here have a police officer come by and check your car seat before you are discharged. And if she was to go early, she'll still be in the hospital for at least 48 hours...plenty of time to drive over to the firehouse or police department and ask them to install it. Most of them would be more than happy to do it just to make sure your kid is safe.

Not quite 549 cases...we have a little of each kind to try out. Our biggest case we have is 258 Huggies. We got them online from diapers.com for a steal..$19.99!

My little buddy showed up three weeks early due to a preeclampsia scare. There is nothing wrong with planning ahead.

Congrats and good luck.

I drove around with a carseat for a month before our little one came. SC Minion said it best. Do what gives you peace of mind and feels right to you.

I took my car to the local Fire Dept. and they showed me a couple of different ways to install the carseat base. Good info and again, peace of mind...

If you don't want to mess with this stuff when you're in the hospital. Take care of it now. Don't worry about anyone's advice/criticism/observations. At the end of the day, it's your baby.

I was so glad we were like you, ahkcompliance, when our bundle of joy came 5 weeks early. Same reason as Garret01. laugh

Note to fathers to be: If you put it in the car while she is in the hospital there is a better chance that you did it correctly (even though you put it in the same way as when she is there).
