Obituary Wow. Makes you wonder why she ever had one child, let alone eight!

That's some good closure for the surviving children.

I kind of feel like why did they bother publishing an obituary at all if they hated her so much, but I'm sure I don't have enough information to make that kind of judgment.

Geeze, and I thought the obits in the Sunday NYT were interesting!
A friend's ll year old son warned her, "Remember, I'm going to be the one who picks your nursing home!" Maybe he should have added that he would be writing the obituary as well.

Unfortunately, I've had the displeasure of crossing paths with too many divorced parents whose children would be able to write the same kind of obit.
Would there was mandatory training and a test before people could have kids. I had a friend in HS who was locked in a trunk as punishment when she was bad. Not only were her parents MARRIED he was a fireman, she was a nurse and both considered upstanding citizens. She moved out of their home when she was 17 and left the state.

Thanks Happy, I have a pretty wonderful son, even though I am :gasp: divorced. well, you certainly were(n't) what I was talking about when I said divorced could be good parents...besides, you're not divorced, you're "perpetually engaged"! My real mom is a great lady, funny, smart, well read, world traveler, friend to everyone, everyone loves her...but as a mom she sucks...havent seen her in over 15 years, haven't talked to her since 2005 just being a nice person means nothing

This was the punch line of my post. Abusive parents come in all shapes, sizes, colors and marital stats. The other part of my post referred to the category of abusive parent I'm currently most exposed to. I have zero tolerance for people who don't get that the trade off for the bundle of joy they begat is putting that little person's best interests above the parents' wants.

The follow up story that I read today was that the mother beat them with a metal tipped belt and ran a house of prostitution. They were in foster care during the week, but she had them on weekends. They were so terrified of her that, in her last week of life, they insisted the doctor sedate her before they would visit her in the hospital. Even so, they disguised themselves. The only purpose of the visit was to identify her. Although they are in their 50s, they remain terrified.
