Pulling people out of the ditc...
So we have someone at work who seems to go out of their way to mispronounce names and words...some can be quite interesting. I guess every workplace has one...

Toyota = Tie-ota
Tahoe = Tie-hoe
Ford = furd
Ice cream = iced cream
steak = stick (had me a stick for dinner last night...what?)
bowl = bowel (gonna have me a bowel of soup for lunch...huh?)
shopping = chopping (heading to the mall to do some chopping...first time i heard this thought i needed to call the police)

Not to mention adding "s" to the end of many singular words:

you need to runs this for me
anyone going to the post office? i need to mails something
have a good weekends
is it fridays yet
i'm running to the bathrooms (maybe to get a bowel of soup?)
at lunch i'm runnings to the cars wash

It has gotten to the point where i see them coming and i head the other way...

I also heard a vendor at the Astros game selling fresh roasted peanu(t)s. Apparently in some parts of the country the t is silent.

Please don't.
They're giving you such great fodder for posts that should be marked with a spew warning.

btw, nails on my chalkboard is the word 'like', used profusely as filler in every single sentence out of most young peoples' mouths. Do they not realize how dumb it makes them appear to do this?

How about using broom instead of sweep?

It's worse here. Not only is the 't' silent, but people ask for them boiled ("balled").

out of the frying pan...
Unfortunately, "irregardless" and "don't" instead of "doesn't" are used profusely around here. They both make me cringe.

ETA: Oh! I almost forgot about the double negatives! As in, "it don't matter none" instead of, "it doesn't matter."

ARGH! mad

The misuse of the word "text" and all its variations is my biggest annoyance.

"he sent me a tex"
"i text (tex-ed) him"

Or the ever popular

fi-en na.

which was shortened from fitten na,

bastardized from fixing to.

A saying which never made much sense to me to begin with.

"fixing to" is just a way of life down here, and i say it too. I can see where it started....if you're "preparing" supper, you are "fixing" it, so along with that, if you are "preparing" to do anything, you are "fixing" to do it.
