Let's give a shout out to all those BOL members who have served or had family who served.

I was never in, but my mom and dad both served in WW2. Dad was 28 when drafted, and could type like a demon, so that's just what he did until 1946. Typed stuff. Ended up a Tech Sgt in the USAAF. He spent a good part of the war in Belfast, but he was on the French Riviera on VE Day.

Mom enlisted in the WACs in Feb 1943, on the day after her 21st birthday. She was on Eisenhower's staff. She was in London when the V1 and V2 rockets were falling.

Her Dad was an Army Drill Instructor in WW1.

Thanks to all those who served and all those serving now.

Dad was in the Navy during WW2 - and he will be 94 tomorrow. I have a brother who served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, and two deceased uncles who served in the Army during WW2.

Thanks to all who serve to protect our country!

Salute to all the Vets!!! THANK YOU for your service and sacrifice.

I never served, but my Grandfather was in Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. Have a couple uncles who served in the Army and the Marines during Vietnam.

Oh, and had a Great Uncle who was one of Patton's jeep drivers in WWII. Always said he wished Patton would have taken all the way to Mascow.

My father was career Air Force - 21 years. I and both of my brothers served in the Army post-Vietnam era. My son-in-law was in the Army and has 2 Purple Heart awards from Iraq/Afghanistan. I have a deep appreciation for the sacrifices of our military.

One of my favorite holidays. My daddy was in the Marines in WW2. He was wounded in combat on Okinawa. My older brother was in the Army just after Vietnam, an uncle in the AF for 30 years, an uncle in the Navy who served on the USS Nautilus and last but certainly not least my hubby did 11 years in the Navy. They all sacrificed so much to keep our way of life protected. I could not be more proud of my military heritage!!

Thanks to all the Veterans who have served!!!

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
My Dad and all of his brothers and BILs served in the military - 7 in WW2 at the same time. My Dad was among the 3 youngest who didn't go to WW2 but served during the Korean War. My Uncle Powers was with the third wave on the beaches on D-Day. My older Male cousins all served in Vietnam. My youngest cousin is career Army and has had several tours in Iraq/Afghanistan so far. God Bless all who serve.

My dad was a member of the army's ski patrol - 10th Mountain Division - in World War II. A few years before he died, he was asked to attend a special ceremony at Ft. Drum, NY. They interviewed him about his time in the army and they videotaped the interview. My dad remembered details like they had happened the day before. I have the tape and it's very special to me. I'm so proud of him and of all the men and women who have served or are serving this great nation of ours. They deserve our support and prayers every day, not just one day a year.

Both of my grandfathers served in the Navy during World War I, one in a unit which was stationed at Pensacola Florida to rescue pilots of early patrol aircraft that "went in the drink," the other on the battleship New York .

My dad was named for one of my great-uncles who served as an Army motorcycle courier and who was killed in France, only two days before Armistice in 1918.

My 89-year-old dad and his older brother both served in the Navy in the south Pacific during World War II, my dad as a coxswain on a Patrol Craft Escort after a brief hitch on the battleship Pennsylvania, my uncle serving shipboard as a pharmacist's mate. Our youngest son served as a Marine machinegunner on two deployments to Afghanistan. He's just now been out for a year.

May the Lord bless those who serve to protect this nation.

Oh ... Marine Corps birthday today.

“YUUUUUT!”

I need to recognize my 'veteran' bride, veteran of 37 years of marriage to me today.

My dad was career Navy, 32 years in (Vietnam vet.) My brother made it to 25 before he got out (Desert Storm, Desert Shield, etc.) My grandfather graduated from the Academy but got kicked out of the service after for being too short. My FIL served in WWII and my BIL served in 'Nam. I truly appreciate all that they survived and gave up for the rest of us.

Indeed, thank you.

To paraphrase Jim Valvano "If you laugh, think and cry, that's a full day." Look up military homecomings online and the last of those three in that quote will make sense.
