My cousin was diagnosed in May (prognosis poor); good friend diagnosed yesterday; coworker's sister died in May. Could really use some positive stories (and prayers would be appreciated).

Do you know the way to ...
My Aunt had breast cancer several years ago, and she's doing very well now. Totally in remission after having double mastectomy (and subsequent reconstruction) and one round of chemotherapy. Took a couple of years to get completely through it, but you'd never know now that she was ever ill.

Best wishes to your friend - and to you, too. A good support circle of family and friends really helps.

I used to work with a gentlemen who's wife had a double mastectomy at 34. She never underwent any chemo, but did have reconstruction. That was 10 years ago and she's still doing great!

About three years ago, I found out in the space of a week that two different friends of mine had breast cancer - both in their late thirties. Both came through it great, and one just had a baby last month!

My mom is a survivor - about 10 years now. Plus, I will tell you that I met hundreds of survivors when I did the AVON 3-Day walk about 5 years ago. 62 miles of walking over 3 days to primarily benefit breast cancer prevention. Most amazing experience of my life, and plenty of people around to give hope for not only survival, but for healthy living afterwards.

My sister-in-law had a tumor that grew to just under golf ball sized in less than 6 months. She had a mastectomy and is doing great. This was 5 years ago when she was 27. She has since had 2 kids and no more cancer.

My friend Christine had a BIG party last year for her 5-year survivor anniversary. She had a mastectomy, chemo, stem-cell transplant, etc., etc., and is now doing well at the age of 43.

Thank you all for your responses. I went to visit her this weekend just to give some support.

Again, I appreciate it.

My mom was diagnosed 34 years ago at the age of 25 - when she was several months pregnant with my brother. Needless to say she put off treatment until he was born - then had the hysterectomy and radical masectomy within a week of each other (the course of action in those days). We went through radiation and chemo - and I was spoiled rotten with all the grandparents taking turns helping us out.

I talked to Mom last night - which is tough to do these days. She and Dad are always going somewhere and doing what they want. She's healthy - and she's been able to give some comfort and support to many, many women going through the same thing in the last 34 years.

Breast cancer is very curable these days - thanks to millions in research over the years. It's still terrifying though - all of you going through it with family and friends are in my prayers.
