We last closed for the whole day on Good Friday the week before I was hired, back in 1988. We went to closing for a half-day (at 1:00pm) starting in 1989. That continued up until a couple of years ago, when they decided closing at 1:00 wasn't allowing anyone to attend noon services anyway. So we're here the whole day now.
If someone wants to ask for the afternoon off, they can work it out with their manager; staffing levels must still be sufficient to service clients, though.
Plus, our staff has become so diverse, I think probably less than half are Christian anymore, anyway. We have a lot of people of Muslim, Jewish, Bhuddist, and other faiths on staff now. (We still get the day off for Christmas, but not any other religious day, though. Whatever.)
