Oops, this says Top 100, but I only included the top 50. Top 100 would have been too long. Maybe we'll get to 51 - 100 if there is interest. This is according to RIAA.

they shouldn't include greatest hits albums. that's kind of a rip off.
ac/dc's "back in black" is the greatest, rockinest, jamminest record ever made.

Top selling albums are top selling albums regardless of whether they are greatest hits or compilations (like Forrest Gump) or live albums. I would agree with you if this were a list of greatest albums based on opinion. This is not. So, I dissent and think it is perfectly appropriate since, after all, these are the top selling albums of all time according to the RIAA.

I only have four of them! I'm gonna have to run out right away and get that brilliant, ground-breaking,genre-defining soundtrack from the "Bodyguard".

Top Albums of original material--no soundtracks or greatest hits albums or live albums (except I left Purple Rain because it was all original material, wasn't it?) Saturday Night Fever was a mix of new and old. (Millions)

It wasn't all bad, just mostly bad. Any album that contains "What's So Funny About Peace, Love, and Understanding" can't be all bad.

Agreed- very good song. Do you remember who sings the version that's on the Bodyguard soundtrack?

Dang! Still no Herman's Hermits. What's up with that? I bet Simon likes Herman's Hermits.

Nick Lowe wrote it and got big residuals off that the Bodyguard album. I know Costello had the most well known version--so, I'll guess Elvis Costello.

I was sure it was Leonard Cohen who wrote it.

I can't believe Spike Jones didn't make the list. What's up with that?
