My G-Pa had coratid artery surgery this year. He healed up okay, but was in the hospital for a 2 days. Mind you he is pretty old. From what I hear a lot depends on your age and how healthy you are before the surgery.

My dad is 54 and he had a heart attack when they stinted his artery in the lower heart chamber. It was induced by the stint. So I'm really really scared. I hear most people do well but I still worry.

Carotid Artery surgery is usually not recommended until the blockage is upwards of 90% because if done, say at the 40% stage, there is not enough improvement to compensate for the risks involved in the surgery.

AND if you (or a loved one) needs to have it done, get a second opinion. If confirmed, have the surgery done by someone who has done hundreds/thousands with a high success rate.

Be sure and ask the surgeon for their statistics.

It was a joke. I am bored and just wanted to comment on something. It seemed like the thing to do. Chill.

His is at least 70% and they won't know until they get into the artery. This is one of the number one hospitals in the world for vascular surgery but I am still scared.

Just make sure, as with all major operations, that they follow instructions so recovery is as quick and easy as possible. Between Dad's neck surgery, multiple open heart surgerys, replacement knees and hip, etc...we used to call him the bionic man. But he always made sure he kept a prositive attitude and would do whatever he needed so that he could make a full recovery.

Oh, I will make him walk a straightline. He listens pretty well to his doctors (better than myself and mom) He seems to have a positive attitude but he's had a lot of health problems.

I understand. It is tough. My grandfather is having all kinds of heart trouble. I have been a mess worrying about him. I hope everything goes well for you.
