By saying something so, well... stupid, the Iranian president has cut off his nose to spite his face. These kind of comments will serve to help ensure that Israel will most certainly not be wiped off the map. He has only helped make it politically impossible for western nations to drop or cut back support for Israel, even if they wanted to do so. (Of course, some will say, he's really smart and that was his intent all along, but I doubt it.)

I wouldn't now be horribly surprised if there was an Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear facilities, a la what they did a few years back to Saddam. After all, the president of Iran has proved his hostility and his country is busily atomically arming itself. Time for a pre-emptive strike? Still, Iran is a long ways off from Israel and there's no way they could get their jets over there without flying through contested airspace and being challenged.

"Israel must be wiped from the map." Hmmmm....I was just thinking the same thing about Iraq and Iran.
Or Persia, as my philosophy professor referred to it. He was Iranian, but when I asked his nationality, he said he was Persian. That was way back during the hostage crisis and the Carter administration, so I could understand why he would rather not own up to his heritage at that time.
