Anyone have any ideas on what I should wear to an 80s theme party this weekend? I was thinking of going the punk-sex pistols route but I'm not sure if I wanna do that...

That's always good or you could go super preppy. All you would need is a bright polo and some sunglasses...and acid wash jeans

Running and riding everywhere ...
Make sure you tight roll your jeans. You could also throw a sweater over your shoulders or tie it around your waist.

If you want to go new wave: Vans for shoes--preferable checked--and the good thing is that they are back in style. Skinny neck tie. Jacket with a very narrow lapel. T-shirt (tear it in a couple of places if punk/new wave) or some kind of geometrical print shirt. Pants or jeans that are very narrow at the ankle. Put lots of pins/buttons on the jacket--like this: http://www.rocktoys.com/4223.htm. Hairspray your hair straight up in the air.

For a punker, create a nose ring out of a safety. Cut the pin part in half with metal cutter, then cut a bit more off of it, then glue the pointed end back into the clasp. You should be able to fit this on your ear or nose. Of

You could always buy some lycra and go as a member of a hair band. Buy a wig and lots of hair spray. I won't go into the whole parachute pants thing.

People forget that the 80s cover alot of styles from disco to urban cowboy to preppy to new wave to punk to Wall Street to Stray Cats (50s rocker look) to hair bands to Goth (black, black hair, stark white face, and black clothes)...I am sure I missed some. Be creative.

Don't forget you Rayban Wayfarers!

The "Miami Vice" look was popular (white jacket, pastel shirt...)

If you wish to go as an 80s prep, you must do Levis 501s (button fly), Ralph Lauren polo shirt with collar up, and penny loafers with NO socks.

And Wayfarer sunglasses. No facial hair. Members Only jacket (I don't think that was preppy though)? Maybe a blue blazer with gold buttons.

This was my halloween costume on the night after i was shrek
Skin tight acid washed jeans tucked into the tennis shoes
A tight sleeveless shirt with "ROCKER" across the front
A head band
A bandanna tied around my calf,
my hair in a mohawk
and a microphone stand with a few bandannas tied around it
I thought it was pretty badass

i love the 80's has been on all week on the VH1 channel. You can get some ideas there, Im sure. Looking back on this, we looked so ridiculous yet we were soooo cool. Go to google and search for that era.

Nothing says the 80's like a cool mullet. Don't forget your Zubas and a few chains around your neck.

It's Hammer time!

If you are a girl, you can't forget your leg warmers.

For women, among all the styles of the 80s, there are really two looks that defined the 80s:

1. The Jennifer Beal (Flashdance) just sexually assaulted looked.

2. The Madonna just wanna be sexually assaulted look.

Way, way south.
Don't forget the Michael Jackson Leather Jacket and matching thin white leather tie. And see if you can borrow an old Trans Am for your ride.

I went to Ace Hardware yesterday and saw a magnificent example of like-brand-new Acid Washed Jeans on the guy that was working there. Not sure where he got these relics, but they appeared to have never been worn before.

Another idea would be to go to your local library and look at the High School year books...I know in my town the library has every year there. You can get some good ideas there...Sweats Biebe's with an izod shirt with the collar up is a good look w/polished white Nike Sneakers with a red swoosh, or white bucks with no sox. Pin stripe jeans w/pleats would work too.
