With the passing of Ann Richards, we've all lost a terrific lady and a great American. We will truly miss her humor, wit, and intelligence.

From news release:

AUSTIN - Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement on the death of former Governor Ann Richards:

"Ann Richards was the epitome of Texas politics: a figure larger than life who had a gift for captivating the public with her great wit. She was an endearing and enduring figure in Texas politics. She paved the way as a leader and a role model for women who aspire to the highest levels of leadership. Anita and I are saddened by a loss that will be felt by many. Ann Richards left Texas a better place."

I echo these sentiments.

She was quite a woman....and what a "character"! She loved Texas and was passionate about her politics. She will be missed a great deal.

Ann Willis Richards grew up in a suburb just north of Waco, attended Baylor U, and went on from there. Today's Waco paper has many of her old classmates telling stories about her and her personality. Yep, flags are flying at 1/2 staff in Texas........

I loved her guest appearance on King of the Hill. That was a priceless episode.

I will always remember Ann Richards' comment about George Bush (Sr) at the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco when she said that "George can't help it; he was born with a silver foot in his mouth."

Molly Ivins has a terrific obit on Governor Richards today. You can read it at http://www.dfw.com/mld/startelegram/news/columnists/molly_ivins/15526062.htm. (note: you may have to past the URL into your browser to view the article)
