I usually stay away from political threads. I'm only starting this one because I was wondering what other people thought of this guy, especially if he does get into the presidential race. I haven't researched him too much, yet.

I like him a lot. Seemingly, a true conservative.
Not sure what movie he's in, but he's on Law and Order weekly.

He's been in a few movies, can't think of them off the top of my head. I have to admit, that he is the first (potential) candidate I could see myself voting for. There is just something about him that seems "real".

So, what Dobson is saying is he isn't Christian ENOUGH? Give me a break - people get irritate when people talk too openly about their faith and when they don't talk openly enough about it. This article seemed like a waste of ink. It didn't change my opinion one way or another.

I read it yesterday. It does not phase me though, as Fred Thompson would most likely govern by example, and protect the freedom of religion, while being a Christian within his own conscience. He need not be outspoken about the particulars of his faith to me. He is a true conservative in the Reagan mold.

I feel this is one of the better Republican contender in years.
I have basically redirected myself from a Republican viewpoint, to a more moderate Democrat in the last few years, but Thompson is someone I could actually through my weight behind...no bs, right to the point, do as I do sort of guy, who will fess up when he is wrong. I like that.
Don't forghet the other Thompson looking to run...good 'ol Tommy Thompson from Wisconsin! He's our boy!

That article about Dobson, does nothing to change my mind about the man. I truly hope he goes for it.

I just found this - Fred Thompson sounds A LOT like Bob Barker!!!
Posted on 03/12/2007 5:29:04 PM PDT by aculeus
It's sounding more and more likely that Fred Thompson will run for the Republican nomination for President. Can he win, though, when it's well known that his penchant for bureaucracy nearly kept Bruce Willis and Clint Eastwood from getting the job done against terrorists and assassins?
I think he can.
Actually, the more I find out about Fred Thompson, the more I think he needs to be President. And I mean he should be President right now, like Dick Cheney should resign, President Bush should then appoint Fred Thompson to be Vice-President, and then President Bush should resign.
Do you think I'm going overboard when I've only just started to learn about Fred Thompson, but you won't when you read this:
AWESOME FACTS ABOUT FRED THOMPSON
* Fred Thompson has on multiple occasions pronounced "nuclear" correctly.
* Fred Thompson has blasted more people in the face with a shotgun than even Dick Cheney. He's Fred Thompson. You're nothing. \ * The masked executioner of Saddam Hussein: Fred Thompson.
* Not only does Fred Thompson cut taxes, he cuts tax collectors.
* Fred Thompson is the only person to have ever bested Miyamato Mushashi in a duel. The reason Musashi is so vague about the book of the void is because the fifth ring of combat is really Fred Thompson.
* The reason Fred Thompson didn't want to stay in the Senate for long is because all the extra scrutiny kept him from doing his favorite hobby: Prowling the streets at night killing drug dealers.
* Every night before going to sleep, Osama bin Laden checks under his bed for Fred Thompson.
* Fred Thompson took over what was Al Gore's Senate seat, thereby dramatically reducing the Senate's carbon footprint. Fred Thompson then created carbon offset offsets by wastefully burning hippies.
* The Fremen consider "Fred Thompson" a killing word.
* Fred Thompson reconsidered running for reelection after 9/11 but later decided to handle things on his own. He was soon seen entering the Middle East with a bottle of tequila in one hand an a handgun in the other. They're still counting the dead.
* Though Fred Thompson left the Senate in 2003, Harry Reid still hasn't stopped wetting his pants.
* Fred Thompson's gaze can kill small animals.
* Fred Thompson once ended a filibuster by ripping out a Senator's heart and showing it to him before he died.

I have to say, there is some serious cheese on that list. But, I like him anyway. The only serious Republican in the race or on the periphery that I like more (looking strictly at issues) is Gingrich. It's funny - in January I was heading to lunch with a friend and he was guest-hosting for Paul Harvey. He talked about the war, and he was so clearly explaining the stakes - it made me think of Reagan. I told my friend that I wished he would get in the race; he didn't think he harbored any ambition for the job. I hope he was wrong.

BF, for what it's worth. I wouldn't vote for him just because he's an actor. I have had someone send me some links to information about him and I plan to try to do some reading on him this weekend. I have heard that his voting record was very consistent, haven't looked into myself and I have heard he stands for what he thinks is right, again hopefully something I'll be able to find out in my reading. He is honestly, in my opionion, the first person I could (at least right now)possibly back.

Besides that brief stiny with Lori Morgan...it appeared and seemed that he was a good and consistent common sense Senator when he was in office. I think it was a loss for the party, and the state of TN, when he decided not to run for re-election.
