Well, there are some (e.g., those who accept $1.6 million retirement gifts) who might appear to see it as a profession. The pastors I've known seem to think of it as a calling, however, and I honor their acceptance of that call. If you've never had the occasion to encounter a minister of that stripe, then I apologize to you on behalf of those who have cloaked themselves in a Christian faith. They no doubt exist, but I do think they're the vast minority - I hope you'll take the opportunity to seek out a pastor truly answering a call to build the Kingdom of God. Seek and ye shall find.
