When the guests fork over the tens of thousands for the wedding they get to choose otherwise whatever the bride wants. (groom does not count as he is usually an invited (and somtimes paying)guest)

Our main cake was white with white "almond" icing. We had sheet cakes that were 1/2 white 1/2 chocolate both with white icing.. Had a grooms cake that was chocolate with chocolate icing. I got one bite of it  My favorite southern wedding I went to had a Armadilla grooms cake. Gray icing, red velvet cake.

My favorite southern wedding I went to had a Armadilla grooms cake. Gray icing, red velvet cake. Really? Someone actually pulled that one out of the movie?

My hubby's grandmother made him a "many layer" cake (another Southern thing) for his groom's cake. It didn't survive the car ride intact, but nobody cared. It had been completely devoured within 20 minutes of starting the reception.

That's starting to become a cliche. I like white cakes for the 'main' wedding cake and 'other' for groom's cake. Ours was white w/ raspberry filling and the groom's cake was German Chocolate.

I love yellow or white. I am a chocolate fan, but i find chocolate cake to be too dry.
Lemon cake (no poppyseed) with raspberry filling is one of my FAVORITES.
No almond icing. I find it disgusting, and if someone has a nut allergy they can't have any cake at all.
But all of the is just MHO, The bride gets what she wants. period. maybe a small layer for the groom. lol

I think it's more about the quality of the cake than the flavor. Like Loralie said, dry cake is gross. Then again, I'll eat just about any flavor of cake!
