Summer Dress Code

HR just announced a summer dress code. No ties until Labor Day. First time in my 30 year banking career. Here's the rest of the rules: From now until Labor Day, men are not required to wear a tie or suit/sports coat. Dress pants and a button-up dress shirt are appropriate. Please use discretion if you have a meeting with a client or an engagement outside of the bank - certain situations may still require a suit. Friday will still be logo wear or casual day (no shorts or denim). Absolutely no men’s shoes are to be worn without socks.
Year-round, women are not required to wear nylons or tights with skirts/dress of appropriate length. Some summer skirts/dresses tend to be shorter and therefore inappropriate work attire. A good rule of thumb is that skirts/dresses should be no more than about 2 inches above the knee. No spaghetti straps or backless dresses/shirts. Shoulder straps should be at least 2 inches in width. As always, no items that are too tight, short or revealing. Sandals are fine but no flip-flops.

Men enjoy no changes for summer here, but women can wear "dress shorts", I think that's sexist!
But our normal code is much more relaxed than your summer code, so I guess I can't complain too much! I've worn a tie to work maybe...twice.

I predict some controversy here.
How long is 'about 2 inches'? Can men wear sandals without socks?

Especially in the south... are not many of the mens summer fashions this year sans socks, or with simple hidden footies.

We were always told that when dressing casual, a good rule of thumb is dress as if the Board was coming in to the branch for a meeting that day.
For most people, that is enough to help them keep their outfits professional.

How long is 'about 2 inches'? I have a ruler. I get to audit everything else around here, so I'll be auditing this too.

How long is 'about 2 inches'? Can men wear sandals without socks? I would estimate within 2 standard deviations of 2" is appropriate. Men wearing sandals with socks should have never occurred in the first place and shouldn't ever happen again!

Our policy also has a stipulation about flip flops, but I think a section needs to be added about the feet themselves. If your heels look like I could grate them over Italian food, NO OPEN BACK SHOES FOR YOU! If your feet look like you walked to the Dead Sea... before it was dead, NO OPEN TOED/BACK SHOES FOR YOU!

And I also have an issue about flip flops. Just because you paid $60 doesn't mean they don't meet the definition of flip flops. They're just designer ones.

How long is 'about 2 inches'? I believe both Pale and MattB can answer this It's not our fault you sent us that PM by mistake. I wasn't going to bring it up because I'm a nice guy that didn't want to embarrass you in public...but hey, it was your choice!
