Texas is in the top 5, so the rankings have at least some merit.

I can say that I disagree with this supposed study. Chicago all the way East to NY is by far the worst area. The South is 10x better than the NE.

Please, Illinois didn't even break the top 5... what kind of crack survey is this?

Please, Illinois didn't even break the top 5... what kind of crack survey is this? Exactly. This is probably where I would put the worst drivers. Every time I go to Chicago I end up paying ~$50 in tolls for a two day stay. That money is supposed to be used on roads. Their roads are some of the worst looking I have seen.

since the survey looked at issues such as speeding and failure to ield, this likely means that some jurisdictions pay greater attention to these from a ticket/revenue standpoint...don't think it truly gives a clear picture on where the worst drivers are, just ones that are tickets...
i've driven in a great many states, i would put california at the top of my list for most discourteous, never had an issue in Chicago...

Discourteous does not mean bad. The title is "worst".
If I were listing discourteous drivers I would still put the NE, Ohio and a few more up there. But to me, worst implies a basic lack of understanding of driving.
1) How driving is done. 2) Laws. 3) Accidents. 4) Failure to understand how to drive efficiently. 5) Failure to understand the unwritten rules of driving.
Chicago fails in all of these.

Chicago police are too busy writing parking tickets to help fund their pensions, to be bothered with traffic tickets.

"Ohio" driver's $uck, due to the majority of the "undocumented" residence are not from Ohio. Columbus is terrible! Just the mentioning of Snow in the weather forcast and people hit the brakes.

I have identified 3 things that really bother me about some drivers.
1) Driving in the left lane, and not pulling over when people behind you are obviously wanting to go faster.
2) Drivers who pull into your lane, going slow enough to cause you to have to brake.
3) People who drive slow in adverse weather. Slow, and careful is not bad but when you are going so slow that it forces others to use their breaks, it causes accidents.

No arguments with SC being second worst. I lived in NE Ohio until I was 37 and now live in South Carolina. The drivers in SC are worse than the ones in Ohio. I would rather drive on I-480 and I-77 into Cleveland in the snow than drive down here on a sunny day. The number of accidents on any given day is absurd. Double the accidents if it rains, and just stay home if it snows, because you won't get anywhere.
It seems that everyone here has the "me first" mentality. If you dare leave a distance between you and the car ahead of you, it will be filled either by the person behind you passing you or someone else jumping in. Doesn't matter if you are going the same speed as the car in front, if there's a gap someone is going to take it. Chain reaction accidents are common here because of all the tailgating. It's usually not 2 cars involved, but 4-6.
The drinking and driving is terrible. It is so sad the number of people killed by drunk drivers in this state. Last week a kid driving to school was killed by a drunk driver - at 8am.

L.A. is definitely in the running for most discourteous drivers. People constantly cut me off because they need to change lanes immediately, without signaling. They don't use their signals because most people immediately speed up to prevent the lane change. After all, not letting that person in front might get the first person to their destination 2 seconds faster.
