Does anyone have a link to a website that can be used to verify whether someone is deceased? I used to have one but somewhere along a job change I lost it. It would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not aware of such a website. We would required a copy of the death certificate to prove the person is deceased. I was told when my brother passed away that a death certificate (like a birth certificate and adoption records) are NOT public records therefore only originals and certified copies are acceptable.

The SSA does provide subscription access to its Death Master File. You can get there from HERE.

I don't know how often it is updated but a free Social Security Death Index database can be found at www.familysearch.org (click on the SEARCH tab and then at the next screen click on the Social Security Death Index).

You can spend some time searching your family history as well at the web site.
