Hi,

We have a member that opened up a checking and upon verifying their opening docs we found the signer's SSN was issued prior to thier DOB.

Is there a form that we can request from the SSN administration office to confirm the individual is the true owner of the SSN? Form #?

Thanks,

No form that I know of but the my experience has been that the person you see holding the number did not obtain the SSN from the SSA but from a private vendor, often via the Internet.

You can verify SSN with the SSA for employment. There must be something for a FI to do the same. I just can't find a form online.

There are several prior threads on name/TIN verification. Here's one.

This day and age, it sure would be nice if the SSA gave financial institutions the authority and ability to validate SSNs. It would solve a lot of problems down the road.

The CBSV mentioned in the thread linked above allows you to do that. Unfortunately, because of the cost structure, you will probably need to go through a vendor to do it.

Under more limited circumstances, "e services" (also mentioned there) will allow you to do the same.
