A customer came in with a check in the amount of $13,000. He did the following:

Received a Cashhier's Check in the amount of $8,000
Deposited $2,000
Received cash in the amount of $3,000

CTR? Thanks.

Follow the cashier's check to determine when/where it is cashed.

I would only follow the Cashier's Check if you are suspicious that the check was requested to avoid Currency Transaction Reporting.

The fact that some of the $13,000 was deposited to an account at your bank and some was deposited elsewhere may only document prudent cash management, not evidence an intent to avoid reporting.
