Just found out today that there are a number of census tracts that are incorrectly identified in the FFIEC Census tract file. The errors are mostly based on errors originally made by the Census Bureau when the original Census 2010 files were released but corrected by the Bureau back in 2013. Aside from containing inaccurate tract numbers the FFIEC file also omits a number of correct tract numbers. Hopefully they will correct the file before the annual update is released in June. Fortunately the mistake involves only a few dozen tracts. Most of the errors are concentrated in Arizona and New York.

I just received word from the FFIEC that they will continue to use the erroneous tracts until 2017. So be careful when mapping or geocoding and confirm with your software vendor which tract list they are using.
