My husband (53 yrs old) informed me that he had a spiritual prompting that there was a young boy out there that we need to take care of. I'm 50 this December and we have plans to relocate in 4 yrs to a smaller community, live on a 60 ft ocean boat, and just start taking it a little easier - our youngest will have graduated by then..the last of five kids.

The "young boy" is 9 was in foster care when we briefly met him eight months ago through running into the foster parents who are 'acquaintances' of ours. Believing this was a simply misunderstanding (between God and my husband), I agreed to contact the foster home where the boy had been living -- on calling I found out that the boy had been placed in an adoptive home seven months earlier, but he had just been returned the week prior to the foster home...the same week my husband had received that quiet, spiritual prompting!

I often tell my children NO; I have frenquently told employees NO; I sometimes tell friends NO..but there is no way I'm telling God NO! So, here we go.....again.

You and your husband will be in my prayers. That boy, likely, is going to have issues with feeling unwanted after being put in to an "adoptive" home and then returned. May God bless you with the patience, love, and understanding to reach him and let him know that his SAVIOR chose you and your husband to shepherd him, and to share the love of Christ with him!

Pulling people out of the ditc...
Look on the bright side...if he is 9 now, in 4 years when you move to the 60 foot boat, he will be 13...the perfect age for a deckhand to fetch you drinks as you bask in the sun!

And 50 today isn't the 50 of our parents, this is still a young age and many have kids this same age. Best of luck to you, your husband, and your new addition. You may be just the thing to influence his life for the better!

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
I don't know who said "We plan, God laughs" but it is so appropriate, isn't it? This poor child. Make sure you know his life story and are prepared with the proper resources to help him. At 9, no matter who adopts, there will be emotional scars and baggage - probably the reason for the failed adoption the first time.

May God bless you and your husband as you help this young man.

Where I am supposed to be
You and your husband are to be commended for your humble servant's attitude which is all too often lacking in these times. Prayers that God's will be done. He will provide all that you need. May God use the two of you to positively influence this young man's life.

State of confusion
What a wonderful story. I have to agree our 'plans' usually pale in comparison to what He had planned for us. It is a blessing that your husband heard and you are willing to openly take the journey. God bless!

Just a bit of encouragement: my parents are 50 & 51, & have recently taken in a 16yo boy in a similar situation. He was adopted from the Ukraine by a family who shortly after, decided they could not handle him anymore. Know that God puts people like you/them in these children's lives to make a difference, but you will be amazed at the difference the child makes in your life as well. God bless!
