My brother had prostrate cancer several years ago and several times the doctors thougth they had gotten it. But it settled into his backbone last year. He tried chemo which didn't work so he is now getting into a clinical study at Baylor University, but the drug side effects sound awful. Up to this point he has felt great and had no pain. He is still working and feels fine. The chemo never slowed him down but then it didn't work either. But I am afraid this new treatment may change all that. Please pray for him that the treatment will work and that it will not be as bad as it sounds.

My sister and I live in PA and he lives in Dallas. He is divorced and the only family he has out there is his 20 year old daughter who is a total airhead. He does a have a girl friend who says she will take care of him, but you never know. I just hate that he is going through this with very little family support except what we can give him over the phone. If he becomes very ill I am not sure what we will do as my sister and I both have fulltime jobs.

So please keep him and the doctors in your prayers and please pray for healing for him.

Prayers for your brother (and you and your sister as well) for healing and the strength to do what he needs to. It has to be hard to be that far away!

Baylor is one of the premier facilities in the country. He's in good hands.

Watch for a cheap airfare sale and go see him for a weekend or more if you can. Reassure yourself and him. Then just keep calling and praying. I know from personal experience how difficult this situation can be. My prayers for you all too.

Just an update. My brother flew back here last Thursday and is going home today. He spent a few days in Pittsburgh with my sister and a few with me. He is in good spirits but he is in a lot of pain from the cancer in the backbone. He goes back to the oncologist tomorrow and starts the new medication probalby this week sometime. The side effects vary with nausea, bleeding, heart attacks etc just to list a few. I guess the most common is the bleeding so keep him in your prayers please as he starts this new treatment.

Here is a further update. My brother went to the new oncologist at Baylor Universtiy yesterday to begin the new treatment for his cancer. His PSA level, which is how they are monitoring the progress of the cancer, has not changed in the last month without any further treatment and the doctor told him that after further review he is not sure that the chemotherapy wasn't working. So he is going to go back to the chemotherapy again and delay starting the new experimental treatment. This is good news as far as I am concerned and my brother seemed to think so too.

I got this information in an e-mail. He is going to call tonight with the details. I will update you all tomorrow.

All in all, it seems that your prayers are working so keep on doing whatever you have been doing.

And a great big thanks to all of you.

Darlene

I talked to my brother last night and what I reported yesterday is pretty much what is going on. He is scheduled to restart the chemotherapy next Wednesday. Please pray that this doctor knows what he is talking about and the chemotherpary is working and will continue to work.
