I've been wanting a dog since I lost my little Jack Russell year before last to old age. My Jack was a Momma's girl and I miss having that. My husband has said no more dogs. Has put his foot down time and time again. We have two dogs and that is enough. But I wanted a lap baby. I finally talked my husband into fostering a Jack so she would not have to go to a shelter. We would keep her until the Jack Russell people found her a home.

We didn't have that dog for 24 hours that her and my husband fell in love with each other and we are now foster failures. BUT I am nothing. Nada. Zilch. Ghost. Invisible. You get the drift.

Here is what you see at my house these days:

"I see my man"
"Isn't my man lovely"
"I love my man"
"I have to follow my man"
"Oh, it's just the woman"
"Oh, my man is on the move, I gotta go"
"MY MAN WENT OUTSIDE WITHOUT ME"
"Do you know where by man is"

grin

ha

I always wanted something like a Boston Terrier or Beagle or Jack Russell.

It would seem that Jack Russells bond well with dudes, thanks for the tip.

Since we lost Cassie a year ago, Mrs. Sox hasn't even considered getting another dog yet..the loss is still too painful for her. However, she mentioned the possibility of fostering recently which made me happy to hear. We shall see.

Does a puppy that was previously homeless now have a loving home? Yes. I call that a foster success!! I could never foster cause I would keep every darn dog they brought me.

I'm not quite ready for another dog. Mostly because I know the same thing will happen, the dog will follow around the man and ignore me.

I have a secret plan in which I will carry treats in my pockets and let her get up on the couch with me.

It's the only hope I'll have at gaining any attention from the dog.

Maybe y'all need to switch breeds. I have a parade of Cavaliers following me wherever I go in the house. Often times there's a Persian bringing up the rear. And yes, Peepers, the foster is still among that number. But she's still a foster so I haven't failed...technically...yet.

I agree with Truf. My Velcro dog is a mama's girl all the way! (ACD - Blue Heeler):)

I have a Velcro dog/mama's girl as well. Lab/German Shepherd cross. Recognizes my BIL as an alpha male and positively adores my nephew but it is obvious to all that I am her person.

My sister's family had a yellow lab and, while devoted to the entire family, he "belonged" to my sister.

out of the frying pan...
My Corgi mix was a total mama's girl - she had very little use for most other people as a general rule, but would tolerate my husband and my mother.

<-- this little gal is a JRT/Catahoula mix (we think), and is also very much MY dog. Or I'm her person...whichever way you want to look at it. I'm pretty sure she considers it to be the latter. smirk

When I dropped my dog off at the kennel in March before I left for a weeks vacation, she was so excited to get to her friends and start playing that she didn't even give me a backwards glance. A little irrational but my feelings were hurt a little. haha When I picked her up a week later, apparently the girl wasn't moving fast enough so Lily unlatched the gate with her nose so she could get to me. All was right in my world. grin

Our rescue pup is the same way with my husband. I mean, he loves me and will come to see me occasionally but he LOOOOOOVVVES his dad. The feeling is mutual. <3

Our older dog, Lady, is my husband's shadow! We adopted her from the Humane Society. Super super sweet German Wirehair Pointer that doesn't have the extraordinary amount of energy that the breed usually has. If my hubby is home, she is at his heels. Even follows him to the bathroom and pouts when he won't let her come in. She won't give me the time of day if he's home unless I say "Treat!" Then she comes running.

I have never heard a dog snore the way she can, though! Oh my goodness! Sounds like a human. She sleeps in our room and my son can hear her from his room downstairs on the other side of the house. She's fallen asleep and started snoring in the living room when we've had company and people can't believe the noises that she makes.

And the foster turns out to be h/w positive. That poor baby. The rescue says it is not unusual for people to dump or get rid of dogs that are h/w positive because of the cost involved in eradicating them. Luckily our vet is reasonably priced as well as excellent. We started her on the road to recovering on Sat.

h/w ? Heartworm? What a bummer. Do you foot the vet bill or does the JR group?

I offered to pay it as a donation to the rescue. They've been hit hard lately with rescues and I wanted to help.

I feel for you PoP. I wish I could take your pups. Bless their hearts. I know how hard this has to be on you. It has to help if you know they are going to a fantastic family. I hope like he!! you find one for your babies.

We had to put our Redbone Coonhound down on 4/17 and had a new member of the family by 4/21. I was the only one in my family of five (4 people, 1 dog) that was not excited about having a new little pup in the house and they swore they'd train her and deal with her. And somehow, I became her person. We got her from a Humane Shelter and are dealing with mange and two different intestional parasites - and now our other dog is also on the same treatment as a precaution. She's a bassett/daushound mix - I call her the devil dog as she's only 6 months old and full of michief. My youngest is taking her homework to school today in a baggie with the official excuse that the dog ate it. smile

NotPerfect - I'm very sorry for your loss. As I stated in another thread we lost our basenji on 4/3 - and even with the two shelties we currently have the house seems empty. We are resisting the urge NOT to bring another dog into the house right now, but I can certainly understand why someone does.

Our beagle mix thinks she's a lap dog, but at 40 lbs, it's a little much sometimes. She likes to climb up on you face to face or sit up beside you with her head on your shoulder. Inevitably when you are not looking, she will lick your face.

I have a Velcro cat too. He sleeps at my feet, gets up with me in the morning and follows me all over the house.
