ABC LLC has two accounts: ABC LLC d/b/a 123 Store and ABC LLC d/b/a 987 Pawn.

Would your bank let the owner deposit checks made payable to "987 Pawn" into the account for ABC LLC d/b/a 123 Store?

These are two different entities, legally.

I think there's only one entity, ABC LLC, with two separate fictitious names.

I would not want our tellers to do that, but unfortunately I doubt they would even catch it in most cases.

What if 123 is sold to another entity? Checks are still payable to 123 but the parent company (maybe the wrong term) changed. Allowing 987 to deposit those into its account would be a error.

We do not allow it, and I have repeatedly warned the customer. I wanted some affirmation before I go close the accounts. Thanks.

We do not allow this either. Checks being deposited must be payable to the name on the account. Typically if we have this situation and our tellers are not catching the checks we sometimes alert the account to stop the transaction to force the tellers to look closer at the items and pull out checks that are incorrect.

Account closed! Customer could not believe that we would close the account after TWO bank officers visited his site and told him that if he didn't stop we would close the account.

Yet again, I am the cold hearted banker out to get the hard working check casher.
